I voted greyscale, but count that as a vote for being functional rather than pretty. So long as the color scheme doesn't hurt my eyes, make it whatever. I do really like the options that arstechnica has for both "light on dark" and "dark on light" text for their mobile site.

It is a matter of taste, and I voted red, but I'd like to make a few observations and get feedback:
The site slashboxes with gray titles look good, the red links look good. The text boxes now look ok, and the text is easy to read and a sensible size, but the glaring thing for me is the title bars are very starkly red, very dominant on what is otherwise a fairly benign color scheme. If I had to change just ONE thing I would change the title bars, make them less contrasty - potentially even greyscale with a bit of red trim? The redness of the site needs to be a bit less overstated. Whatever color we choose I believe that understatement is the order of the day, since we are about content - the articles, commentary and ease of navigation are everything.
-- Do it yourself, 'cause no one else will do it yourself.
At least for me, the title bars actually make it difficult to scan the titles and completely break the flow of the site. Too contrasty and in-your-face-y. A more subdued shade would be much better.
-- The trouble with being punctual is that people think you have nothing more important to do.
