The Christian Science Monitor reports that British drone pilot Nigel Wilson has been arrested for watching English Premier League soccer matches by flying a camera-equipped drone over the stadium.
Have you ever seen the blimp on television when you’re watching a football or baseball game and think to yourself, “Hey, they must have an amazing view of the game.â€
Now say you don’t have a blimp anchored outside your home, but you happen to own a personal drone equipped with a video camera. What sporting event would you fly over? Game seven of the World Series? The Super Bowl?
For Nigel Wilson of Nottingham, England, it was English Premier League soccer games, and as a result of his actions, Wilson ended up behind bars.
Engadget reports that Nigel has been charged under the Air Navigation Order, which obliges operators to maintain visual contact with drones in flight, bans flying near or over events of 1000 people or more, and requires drones remain within 400ft vertically and 500m horizontally of their pilots. It also bans drone flights in the boundaries of London's Royal Parks - Nigel has also been charged with flying over The Queen Victoria Memorial in St James Park, adjacent to Buckingham Palace.
