Ellis D. Tripp writes "The California state assembly is considering a new bill aimed at reducing the incidence of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID). The proposed law would make it a criminal act to operate a motor vehicle with ANY detectable level of ANY Schedule I through IV drug in your bloodstream. Not only does this include many prescription drugs, but it would also include substances such as gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), n,n-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), and testosterone, all of which are controlled substances, and also happen to occur naturally in the human body.
Whether an intentional attempt to create a law to be used selectively against anyone the cops want to arrest, or just an example of the gross ignorance of basic science among US legislators, laws like this are sure to be on the rise as prosecutors and police seek to retain power in the face of efforts to legalize marijuana and begin rolling back the abuses of the War on Drugs."

If that bill is passed, driving a car will become officially illegal in California. Everyone has testosterone in their bodies, even women.
Well, it would be a golden opportunity for light rail... Childhood obesity would plummet too when school buses can't move and everyone has to use a bike.

Baseline level for testosterone on bloodwork for women if anyone is interested is 50 ng/ml. For men it's 750 ng/ml iirc. Maybe someone else can supply blood levels for DMT during various phases of sleep since it's the chemical used by the brain during dreaming.
This is a truly idiotic bill.

Right up until sensible legislation (that'll be the day) is passed which requires people riding bikes on public roads to obey and abide by the same rules and laws as everyone else, including but not limited to registration/taxes, traffic safety laws, public safety laws, testing for knowledge and willful compliance of said laws, etc.
I know that may sound extreme to bicycling fans but when you live in area like the one I live in, you see first hand how much more danger their choices (often) introduce to an already more-dangerous-than-it-should-be situation.
